Sleepy Town

We had a gap in our reservations between our early October stay in NOLA and when we were allowed in at our next destination. So we checked out a new location that did not have much for reviews positive or negative to them. It seemed promising according to the various Open Signal maps we would have the data that Jason would need to work. Maxey Care RV Park also seemed pretty affordable as an opportunity to reset after having some extended time in New Orleans.

Morganza, Louisiana, is a sleepy little railroad town that doesn’t have much more than dilapidated closed businesses. It is located about five miles north of New Roads, Louisiana. Which is a larger community along the river and that is where you’ll find the local Walmart and other larger newer businesses.

The Maxey Care RV Park was a great find. The only downfall of it was being 500 feet from a railroad and it was one that had lots of crossings requiring tons of horn blasts! The weekly rate for water, electric and sewer full hookups came in at about $17 a night! They have Good Sam discounts on daily rates. Verizon worked extremely well here and AT&T was also good. The hosts here are very nice but trying to get arrangements made with them was a little bit of a struggle since they don’t seem to be too organized in their scheduling. Probably not really a concern, this place has frequent turnover but at the same time also has very permanent work campers in the park. The sites are large aggregate stones with some grass between each of the parking spaces. All of the sites are pull-through and mostly level. You can pay at the automated pay station too if you are just passing through for the night, but you won’t get the Good Sam Discount that way. You can use credit card also in the office, you will need to call and convince them to open it. There is a decent laundry room on site. Showers are a little scary.

There really is not much to do in this area, it is about a half hour from community to community in this area. New Roads, LA, is a larger river community just five miles south of Morganza. We just happened to come across a festival that the community has annually in New Roads sponsored by the local historical plantation. We stepped out of our comfort zone and found it had great local food from the local church ladies which is much different than having it in Wisconsin local Flair. Lots of vendors selling crafts and music on two stages. It had a very heavy police presence, we counted at least 30 police officers covering it.

Next up? We continue another hour North along the river to meet up with some fellow WELSTechers that have also recently went full-time.
